Born September 17, 1947.

Doctor of Sciences (Physical Chemistry), Principal researcher, Head of Laboratory at the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science of the N.N. Semenov Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia.

Russian scientist in the fields of chemical and biochemical physics, renewable sources of energy, photocatalysis, physical chemistry of nanomaterials, EPR spectroscopy, sensors based on nanostructured metal oxides for the determination of toxic substances in gaseous and liquid media, monitoring and purification of natural and waste waters, development of new, ecologically save technologies.

All his life, Dr. A.I. Kokorin has been working at the N.N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences (now FRC CP RAS), where he defended his Ph.D. (1974) and D.Sc. (1992) dissertations. He was the Executive Secretary of the Scientific Council on Solar Energy Conversion at the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
Currently: Principal researcher, Head of Laboratory, Member of the Board of Dissertation Council of the FRC CP RAS. He conducts research work at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

Scientific advances:

  • The basements of a new measurement method of the band gap energy and energy levels of dopants in the band gap of nanostructured semiconductors have been developed;
  • regularities and peculiarities of the intramolecular spin exchange in the stable bi- and polyradicals and dynamics of conformational transitions in organic molecules have been established;
  • a new type of photocatalytic systems based on mixed nanoheterojunction oxide semiconductors with high oxidative activity in the dark during up to 10 hours after switching off their illumination have been developed. The physical-chemical features of their action, ways to improve their properties including highly effective antibacterial (“self-cleaning”) activity and mineralization of organic compounds have been established;
  • New systems of the “core-shell” type based on the ferromagnetic core and coatings, able to adsorb selectively highly toxic transition metal ions (UO2, Cr, Mn, V, Ni, Co, Cu, etc.) have been developed. The systems can be used to extract valuable and/or toxic metal ions and organic compounds from aqueous solutions using environmentally friendly methods.
